The Spinney offers you freedom, space and seaside accommodation at Garlieston. In much earlier times Garlieston Harbour would have been a thriving hive of activity as it traded its rope and sailcloth for tea and lace and coal from abroad. Our comfy holiday cottage, with its wood burning stove, and private garden is just perfect for barbeques as it catches the evening sun. It is ideally situated for exploring the Machars, and the wider Galloway region and the Scottish Borders. It's only a short journey from the quaint local villages of the Isle of Whithorn, Wigtown, the larger historic town of Newton Stewart and beyond.
Whatever holiday you are planning, this delightful, cosy end terraced cottage is just the ticket for exploring the best of what Galloway has to offer and for that relaxing holiday you can just leave the car and enjoy the most delightful walks from the front door. - We have been here lots over the past few years - love the cottage love the area but never in a heatwave - Too hot for dining in the garden. The Machars and other coastal areas have looked at their very best however and we have enjoyed a little touring a lot of sunshine and a restful time too at The Spinney. - We had a very pleasant stay at The Spinney. Everything was very clean and comfortable. The accomodation was ideal for a typical Scottish summer - we dined in the garden when the sun shone and in the conservatory when the wind and rain battered down. - A very clean well prepared cottage in a quiet but charming seaside village.Its a home from home with everything you need.More spacious than it looks from the outside,with a sun room for dining,and a large rear conservatory. - Yet another wonderful holiday here at The Spinney. It feels like home to us. Our first week was warm and sunny, the second somewhat mixed but that did not stop us enjoying some lovely walks in the woods, forests and beaches. My daughter an avid insect watcher and photographer spotted a rare moth in Cree woods which is one of our favourite places to walk....Our longer stay meant that we were able to explore a wider area and particularly enjoyed Kippford and Rockcliffe and the small towns of Gatehouse of Fleet and Castle Douglas. The harbour view pub is welcoming and cosy the food there very nice. Our two little dogs have enjoyed bird watching in the secure garden. - Two years ago we wrote of the most glorious weather imaginable. This year we learned the meaning of the wind chill factor. Despite the Siberian blast The Spinney has looked after us. - The Spinney is spacious but cosy with central heating and option of roaring log fire. Wood provided too!!The cottage is immaculately clean with modern bathrooms and kitchen. Comfy sofas. Enclosed safe garden Everything is there that you could.possibly need from tin foil to dish washer tablets. The hosts haven't left anything out that you could possibly need. You couldn't ask for more. We went to the pub 5mins along the road and had great crack with the locals the food is fab there too. Great base for visiting Port Patrick Newton Stewart and the Isle of Whithorn. So peaceful and quiet get away. We've come home in love with the area and wish we owned the Spinney S & C Feb-2-18

- Weather not to bad travelling here but what a great surprise when we entered The Cottage. It was home from home everything you need was inside. Weather not good enough to sit in the garden but it would be great when the sun shines. Plenty of space inside to sit and relax. It was nice to sit and watch the birds while having breakfast.... - Not too lucky with the weather this visit but managed to do many a long and squelchy walk with Jess again in Collie heaven. A visit to Culzean Castle on a wet day was very interesting. Can also recommend visits to Newton Stewart swimming pool and also the Ryan centre at Stranraer. We were thrilled to see an Egret at RSPB Crook off Baldoon reserve. - Mum and Dad have stayed at Trostrie many times so thought it would be nice to bring the family to Scotland and to The Spinney. Wow what a wonderfully appointed cottage great spot with everything you could hope for. We visited lots of places but Ardwell Bay was a firm favourite with a lovely beach where we paddled in the sunshine. We even BBQ´d one evening and it was fab. We hope to return here again soon. - I brought my family to a place that is very dear to me ,I was worried it might not be as wonderful as it has been for me since I first came here as a little boy ,my grandparents and parents have lived here on and off for most of their lives, to share the magic has been fantastic. The Spinney is truly a home from home ,the attention to detail in providing this is something to be very proud of ,from booking to arrival the communication has been spot on, and once the door is open you are able to relax, unwind and immerse yourself in this unique part of the world .The cottage is very beautiful,the garden is wonderful with so many birds and butterflies.We like to cook and we did, everything on hand and a dishwasher!! Fantastic when you want to get back to your holiday. Beds are very comfortable ,showers powerful and hot, living room cosy, especially with the stove on. Books for bedtime, conservatory to while away a showery day relaxing. All in all the perfect place, thank you guys from Me and my Family You two have obviously put a lot of time and thought into the Spinney and it really shows, it´s the little things that always count, your attention to detail screams quietly out, relax enjoy unwind! Thank you for the welcome pack, they were very much appreciated. Our dog Jenny had a fab week also and we were so lucky with the weather. We visited St Ninians cave and the Woods of Cree and of course all the beaches east and west. There is such a selection. We love this area and the people are so friendly. - 3rd visit to The Spinney - as good as ever. Really appreciate the new TV. Can see it without need of specs. Weather good until Thursday night down pour. Friday a bit hit and miss but managed to find lovely beach at Monreath - go to Golf Club and drive down path. Its a bit narrow but worth it at the end. P J & F July-2017
- What a wonderful cottage. I think this is the best holiday cottage we have been to in terms of comforts between childhood and adult years. Dad picked The Spinney on a random search but we will be sure to pass on the word.... We need to return to the area. Too short a time to explore properly. - Like so many others we keep coming back! Love the house garden and Garlieston. Have been watching the blackbirds collecting food constantly for the young chicks in the nest in the buddleia bush. Its a great area to explore and recharge lifes batteries getting away from things that don't really matter. Already planning next years visits. I & J June-2017

- Thank you for an extremely comfortable stay in a lovely cottage. We welcomed the disabled friendly additions and the safe and secure garden for the dogs. This really is a bird watchers paradise with woods gardens seaside and farmland all in close proximity. Hedgehog in the garden, song-thrush giving a beautiful musical display at dawn and dusk. Galloway house gardens and Castle Kennedy great for mobility scooter and dogs welcome. Like many others we would happily return. H & A May-2017
- We usually head up to the highlands but for once we decided to explore this area and what a peaceful beautiful area it is. Having a base as special as The Spinney has been the icing on the cake. The wine and shortbread was very much appreciated - Thank you S & D May-2017

- Another lovely stay. The handrails in the shower much appreciated...The sun room is very useful Mun and Dad were very happy to relax in there a couple of times which meant that I could have a couple of long walks. - Yet again we have had a lovely time here. The place is spotlessly clean and so comfortable - a real home from home. The BIG TV & WiFi are great. The shower is super and powerful (not all are) and the safety/grab rail is much appreciated. As a habitual feet-putter-up I love the leather chairs and footstools! Too many thoughtful, useful items to enumerate but all appreciated. Visited old haunts - Isle of Whithorn, community cafe,, Wigtown bookshops (naturally), Castle Douglas - great charity shops and eateries...Not our first visit - certainly not our last! - What a lovely place for the two of us to spend our Christmas Escape - Couldn´t have wished for more. From opening the door the first time to it´s warm homeliness. Opening presents in the conservatory and beautiful walks in each direction from the village. We´ve had a great Christmas. - Have had a lovely relaxing half-term holiday. The cottage is so cosy and comfortable and the kitchen so well equipped we had not one but two home cooked roast dinners this week! Fire been lovely to light in the evenings after a long day walking. Beds so firm and comfy!..We have enjoyed lovely walks this week including Loch Trool, Isle of Whithorn, to Bellowhead, Bellowhead to St. Ninians Cave Wigtown and both coasts from Garlieston. We have been so lucky with the weather - sunshine nearly every day and it only rained once...We will definitely recommend the cottage to friends and family. I'm sure we will return in the not too distant future. Thanks again P M A & D Oct-2016

- For two whole weeks Whoopee Came to Spinney in May and July but for only one week each time. It just goes too quick. Decided to book a two weeker for our October break fhew. So glad we did......The weather for October has been really good only one day of rain. Going home to Liverpool tomorrow. Very sad to leave. - Although we arrived on a wet and windy day. It is always a pleasure to come to The Spinney. Many thanks for the extra 2 days which were beautiful - The Garlieston we always loved when coming in May. The new chairs foot stools & super huge TV were wonderful as having WiFi.... We had to laugh at finding a hedgehog wondering along the sea front...One advantage of September over May was the wonderful blackberries especially along the paths at Wigtown. - Perfect cottage for a lovely weeks family holiday. We had everything we needed and with a toddler the washing machine was a real bonus. In the evenings the garden was a safe and fun place to play after happy days spent on some of the areas beaches...We can recommend for primary children.. - Up from Merseyside for our second visit this year to the lovely Spinney. Our last holiday was in May and we had really amazing weather really hot!!! This week has been sunshine and showers... Tim & Pauline have been busy providing yet more extras that improve The Spinney as the best cottage in Dumfries & Galloway. The 2 new leather chairs (+ footstools) the big 40 inch TV is fantastic the garden chairs and finally a copy of Scots write Stuart McBride funny murder mystery on the bookshelf. - Tae The Spinney Cottage - The garden was wonderful & in full bloom. The collies luved it so many colours like the Bonnie wee vase of flowers. Plenty O stock was at hand a nice wee change fae oor caravan There was a mass of reading that kept us fae greeting cos it rained Awwe yin day. Alas its near the end & we've to pack up but hope to be back when we hopefully have the time. So we will take a slug O the lovely chilled wine. Cheers for Auld Lang Syne. We had a really good time. - Oooh! Some of you got really excited by the fab wine and scrummy shortbread but we were really impressed with the WiFi and the dishwasher tablets! Must be an age thing. This cottage is so well equipped! Our dogs loved the garden. - We´ve enjoyed a relaxing week in your comfortable cottage. Fairs days mild for October made walks between Wigtown & Monreath on or near the coast a joy. We made minimised use of the car, exception being a trip to the Rhinns and found the bus service useful too. Evenings in with the fire lit were appreciated and wine & biscuits enjoyed. S & G Oct-2015

- Beautiful clean cottage with everything you need and more but no clutter perfect. Garlieston we know and love; and Wigtown Book Festival gets better year on year. - We've had a really enjoyable few days here in this beautiful place. We feel we have recharged our batteries ready for the business of work ahead for us. We managed to visit various places ..(too many to mention here). The locals are very friendly and welcoming. We have been truly blessed especially as the weather has been amazing too. - Had a lovely week exploring this lovely part of the country.. Dundreggan Abbey worth a visit.. Lots of castles etc in various states of ruin, all great atmospheric. - Thank you for a lovely holiday. The weather was perfect apart from our last day, but not cold enough to justify lighting the very cosy looking fire. The spinney is well appointed, comfortable and homely with lots of extras – cleaning materials, books and games radio and tourist info. The garden is secluded and quite a sun trap..
